A sentiment expressed on
bumper stickers by those who have too often heard the
converse -- that
ASL is a
deficient or
bad form of
English.
In fact, American Sign Language, like the other sign languages of the world, is a language of its own. It has its own grammar involving spatial pronouns, lots of puns, various dialects, and so on. One really could just as easily say that English is just bad ASL.
