Fort James is a
paper products company. More specifically they make paper products and several related products including things such as the
toilet paper holders. Fort James was the product of a merger between
Fort Howard and
James River. The two companies merged and became what we know as Fort James with only slight changes to the
operation of either company.
As of November 27, 2000, Fort James no longer exists. It has been acquired by
Georgia-Pacific Corporation. The acquisition of the company was part of GP's ongoing project to become a primarily
consumer products company. Most of Fort James will be maintained and kept with GP. However, some of the paper and
commercial resources will be
divested so as to keep with GP's new business direction. All Fort James
shares were exchanged for shares of GP
stock.
