The
Singapore Story: 1965 - 2000
Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew.
The book is an acount of the progress of the tiny country island of Singapore in South East Asia, from its independence in 1965 to the year 2000. Lee Kuan Yew was the Prime Minister (1965 - 1990) and the mastermind of the country's development.
The preface begins with
I wrote this book for a younger generation of Singaporeans who took stability, growth and prosperity for granted. I wanted them to know how difficult it was for a small country of 640 square kilometres with no natural resources to survive in the midst of larger, newly independent nations all pursuing nationalistic policies.
The book is divided into 3 parts:
1.
Getting the Basics Right - national security, infrastructure, finance, unions, corruption, the media, brain pool
2.
In Search of Space - Regional and International - Relations with other countries, and their leaders
3.
Winding up - personal reflections
Definitely a book that will induce a mindfuck.
