A suburban
town located on the west shore of the
Susquehanna river in central
Pennsylvania. Not far from the state
capital of
Harrisburg, this small,
conservative borough features prime examples of
Victorian architecture, and is borders the
Naval Inventory Control Point on the
north. Mechanicsburg holds a
population of 9,042 as
counted in the 2000
census, and spans 2.25
square miles.
Public
events in the community are organized by the Mechanicsburg
Chamber of Commerce, the most prominent of which is the
annual Jubilee Day festival, a day-long
celebration originally known as
Farmers and
Merchants day, and started in 1923 by local
businessmen who witnessed a similar event in
Gettysburg. The council can be reached at

The town is governed by the Mechanicsburg
borough council, headed by
council president Brian Rider. Jack Ritter serves as
mayor of the community. The borough council meets at 7:30 PM on the third
Tuesday of each month.
Local parks include
Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park and
Koser Park, the former also containing the town's
public pool, and featuring the
high school football field.
