Born
Carole Penny Marshall in the Bronx, New York, on October 15, 1942, Penny has had a long and successful career, but mostly thanks to her brother,
Garry Marshall, producer of numerous movies and hit television shows, including
Happy Days,
Mork and Mindy, and of course,
Laverne and Shirley, which rocketed her to fame. Garry gave Penny her first role - a bit part in his movie,
How Sweet It Is, and also cast her as
Laverne when he needed a couple of "fast girls" for
Fonzie to date in an episode of
Happy Days. After the characters proved successful, Garry gave them their own show, which rapidly became one of the most popular
spin-offs in history..
After
Laverne and Shirley, Penny had a few small roles in movies, but her star wouldn't really shine until she took up the
director's chair, with
Jumpin' Jack Flash in 1986. The success of that led her on to
Bigger and
better things.
The following is a brief list of some of her more famous roles and movies. It is not a complete list.
