The TG-CD was the exact same unit as the
PC Engine CD-ROM² (except
black), but the Base was a bit different from the
PC Engine Interface Unit. Since the
TG16 was longer than the
PCE, the Base situated the CD unit above and behind the system, with a "floor" as the main base.
The CD unit faced more troubles in America than in Japan, because the technology was so new and because video gaming was still fairly "hidden" from society, making people wary of spending so much money on the unit. Luckily, the games were awesome, and the TGCD received respectable coverage in game magazines. The "portability" of the CD unit was also stunted, as it always needed power from the power cord, and the electronics were too weak to be slapped around by a jogger.
