The third month of the
Aztec Xiuhpohualli was Tocoztontli. In comparison to the western calendar, the month covered the dates we know as March 25 through April 13.
This month was known as "The Little Vigil" and the primary gods honored and worshipped during this month were Centeotl, Chalchihuitlicue, Chicomecoatl and Tlaloc. Flower sacrifices were made to Coatlicue, and the flowers offered to her symbolized the first fruits of spring. Until the ceremonial flowers were offered up to Coatlicue, the people were not allowed to smell the new flowers. Also during this month the first corn was planted and the flayed skins from the previous month were taken to Yopico temple.
