A digipak is a
case for a CD made from
cardboard and
plastic. They generally fold open in
nifty ways, and hold the CD in a plastic part that is
similar to a standard CD case. Frequently, they have a pocket to hold the
booklet that you usually find in a regular CD case. A good example of the digipak is "
The Fragile" by
Nine Inch Nails.
With that said, I must express my extreme disgust for digipaks. They get dinged up easily when you put the CD in a backpack or other bag, they fall apart if they get wet, and if the part that holds the CD breaks, you're basically screwed. Give me a standard, easily replaceable plastic case any day!
The digipak is trademarked and patented (US Patent No. 4.709.812) by AGI Incorporated.
