A
movie starring
Michael Douglas as the
President and
Annette Bening as the
woman he
courts
Also features
Martin Sheen and
Michael J. Fox in roles that
foreshadow their later
careers in
Prime Time.
The movie is generally heartwarming but of course has themeasure of gutwrenching beginning relationship/ political angst required for a romantic political movie such as this one.
Rob Reiner, as director, manages to effectively hit the feelgood points that the movie is capable of: Both the Romantic aspect and the Patriotic aspect, making it, while not quite in the same league, at least reminiscent of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington or other high-period Capra -- pointed out by the actual mention and definition of the adjective Capraesque early on in the movie.
