Saint Zita was born in Lucca, Italy in 1218 and died there in 1272. She spent her
pious life as a
handmaid for a wealthy family,
giving away all she could spare to
the poor and the sick. Zita believed that maintaining
employment with her
harsh master and
mistress was a form of penitential
worship.
Her body is housed in the Cappella di Santa Zita in the church of San Frediano in Lucca, Italy.
Saint Zita is the Patron Saint of Domestic Workers, Homemakers and Lost Keys.
Saint Zita's feast day is April 27th. Which is moJoe's birthday, so now we know his true destiny.
A prayer to Saint Zita:
Dear follower of the Son of God, you desired to become a [servant and died the death of a slave. You were not only a faithful
maid-servant but a practical lover of the poor. Like Mary you could have said: "Behold the handmaid of the Lord." Prompt
domestics to be just and charitable, seeing in their employers children of God and setting an example for them as servants of God. Amen.
