Platform
shoot-'em-up for the
Sega Megadrive, developed by
Treasure. Similar in many respects to their earlier game
Gunstar Heroes. The player takes control of a heavily
Contra-inspired armoured alien (a
birdman) and has to blast their way through several linear levels of enemies. The
USP of this game was that every level consists entirely of a series of
bosses. With the exception of short breathers to restock between each boss, that's exactly the case.
However, the game is also incredibly difficult. Maneuvring the large player sprite out of harms way is taxing stuff. There are loads of weapons available in the game, and a large array of options prior to starting play. As a technical showcase it's pretty impressive purely in its speed and fluidity, although the Xyrinx games (Red Zone and Sub Terrania) were slightly more ambitious.
