Ararat is the country, where, according to the
Bible,
Noah's Ark landed after the Deluge. The story is told in the Bible in Genesis 6-8. Ararat was the area surrounding Lake Van in
Armenia, which is now part of
Turkey.
Many followers believe that Noah's Ark came to rest on Mount Massis, which was the tallest mountain in Ararat and in known today as Mount Ararat. According to other translations of the story (Aramaic and Syriac), the ark landed in what is now the mountains of Kurdistan
