Pope Blessed Under:Leo XIII (1882)
Agnellus was a
missionary sent by
Saint Francis first to
Paris to build a
convent there. Still under the direction of
Saint Francis, he later travelled to
England where he performed his greatest services. He helped create a
Friar's
school at
Oxford (although he was not well educated). He also served
diplomatically by stopping a
civil war between the
King and the
Earl Marshal and the
Welsh. He died of unknown
disease in 1236.
