British metal, a
genre in
rock music dominated hard rock in the early-'70s. British metal was faster, tougher, harder, and louder than older rock genres. It featured very successful bands like:
Black Sabbath,
Deep Purple,
Led Zeppelin and
Queen.
British metal was an inspiration to many of the defining metal styles that followed. Heavy metal bands like The Cult and The Scorpions as well as NWOBHM bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest have their roots in British metal.
Influence from British metal in modern day music are plentiful, everything from Hair metal to Death metal owe something to this genre.
Unfortuantly the metal scene in Great Britain is all but dead this days. Metal fans around the world wait for a enother wave of british metal to hit the charts, but in the mean time have to settle for the fine metal from Germany and Scandinavia
