The choko vine was once an essential addition to any garden, and was usually grown over the toolshed or dunny. The vine grows from a deep buried tuber, and has distinctive spiral tendrils like telephone cords which it uses to hang onto whatever structure it is using for support.
The fruit tastes like lukewarm water, no matter what you do with it. If you add too much curry to a dish you can actually remove some by briefly boiling a peeled choko in the pot.
