1. White Elster

(German: Weiße Elster)

A 257 km long tributary river of the Elbe river system in Germany. Springing from the Erzgebirge, the upper stretch of the White Elster runs through a sheer gorge, with 60-70 m high dolerite walls. The White Elster flows through Vogtland and past the lignite deposits at Leipzig, before joining the Saale, north of Merseburg.


2. Black Elster

(German: Schwartze Elster)

A 188 km long tributary river of the Elbe river system in Germany. Flowing from its source in the Lausitz mountains, east of Dresden, the Black Eslter runs parallel to the Elbe in the Breslau-Magdeburg valley, before merging with it, near Wittenberg.
