Song by The Beatles
Composed primarily by Paul McCartney and
released on 24 November 1967 as a single together with Lennon's 'I am the Walrus'
on the flip side.
In many discographies, it is listed as 'Hello, Goodbye'. This is a common mistake that
can be found on many lists of (Beatles) songs, especially those on the Internet. I have done a little research and written to Beatles experts
around the net, and confirmed this.
There is no
comma between '
Hello' and '
Goodbye'. The mistake is due to the fact
that 'Hello, Goodbye' with the comma, seems to look better and more
sound, than
without. As such, most
sensible people tend to
add in the comma.
It is, in fact, 'Hello Goodbye'.
When checking, we would find in the CD sleeves of the Beatles' Magical Mystery
Tour, Anthology 2, and 1, the omitted comma is utilised. Also, if we take a look
at the cover of the original single, we indeed see the song listed as 'Hello Goodbye'.
As added information though, when the song was originally recorded during the
Magical Mystery Tour sessions in October 1967,
it had the working title 'Hello Hello'.

Hello Goodbye
You say yes, I say no
You say stop and I say go, go, go
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
I say high, you say low
You say why, and I say I don't know
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Why, why, why, why, why, why
Do you say good bye
Goodbye, bye, bye, bye, bye
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye
I say hello
hello, hello
I don't know why you say goodbye I say hello
Hello
Hela, heba helloa
Hela, heba helloa
