Holism and evolution is the
title of the seminal
book published in 1926 by
Jan Smuts in which he expounded his
theory of
holism.
In short,
holism expresses the fundamental
principle that a true description of the
world cannot be attained by a
reductionist approach, but rather that the world must be viewed in terms of collections of
wholes, the total of which is greater than the mere
sum of their parts.
