On the
Navajo reservation vast distances and bumpy dirt roads seperate the people of the
Navajo Nation. An outside observer would notice how the Navajo never keeps a tight schedule. This attitude towards time has been called
Navajo Time. After visiting the reservation myself on many occasions, I can say I witnessed this first hand. It was not considered impolite to show a few hours late or early to an event. There is no sense of rush, no hurry to get anywhere.
Tony Hillerman alludes to this notion in many of his books.
Officially, Navajo Time is Mountain Time, pretty much this is only important is for sending kids to school.
