(Also
Nefertete)---
Egyptian Queen of the 14th century
B.C.E., wife of
Amenhotep IV (or
Akhenaten, who was the first
Egyptian Pharoah to abolish the
polytheism of his ancestors in favor of worship of a single
deity,
Aton, or
Aten).
Nefertiti was reknowned for her beauty. Unfortunately, very little is known about her
birth or
death. It is speculated that she was not born of
royal blood (her father might have been one of the high court officials). The details of her death are not known, but she outlived her husband, and helped his successor (her son?)
Tutankhamen for a while.
