Originally a
Moravian settlement, located in what is now
Winston-Salem, NC.
Actors are contracted out to portray what people would have been doing in the
1600s and
1700s. A
horse and carriage pulls kids around the Old Salem
town square.
School systems all over
North Carolina send their children to learn about
candlemaking and to eat
Moravian sugar cookies.
The community is popularly represented by a silver teapot, a Moravian symbol now identified with Winston-Salem as a whole.
Salem College, Salem Academy, the Salem Tavern, Mayberry's, and a host of old-fashioned shops are located in Old Salem. Governor's School students stay in Salem's dormitories each summer.
