Republican Senator from Pennsylvania

Rick Santorum was born on May 10, 1958, in Winchester, Virginia. He attended Penn State University where in 1980 he received a B.A. in political science. While at Penn State he worked on the campaign of the late Senator John Heinz. He continued his education earning a M.B.A. degree from University of Pittsburgh and earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence degree from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He worked at the lawfirm Kirkpatrick and Lockhart as an associate attorney from 1986-90. In 1990, Santorum took a leave of absence from Kirkpatrick and Lockhart to run for Congress against a seven-term incumbent in Pennsylvania's 18th district. In 1994, Santorum was elected to the United States Senate.

Santorum and his wife, Karen Garver Santorum of Penn Hills, PA, have three children, Elizabeth Anne, Richard John ("Johnny"), Jr., and Daniel James.

Santorum in strongly anti-abortion, but supports the death penalty. He supports mandatory three strikes sentencing laws.
