A spectacular flowering red
shrub native to
New South Wales,
Australia. Growing up to three metres tall, the waratah is the floral
emblem of New South Wales. Its scientific name is Telopea Speciosissima.
Waratah grows best in the
wild and is nearly impossible to
cultivate in
pots. It flourishes in
soil rich with
humus and prefers full
sun exposure.
The
plant will not
bloom until it reaches at least two years in age. The first flowering can produce 6-20 blooms, and this number increases greatly with age.
