The Centaur/IDT Winchip processor is a unique
x86 core developed by the
Centaur division of
IDT.
It's design is not about high clock speed, operations per clock, or a quick ramp up, but size and power use (and this heat dissipation). The chip came too late, however and the industry - for the most part - passed it by.
The only widely distributed device to use a Winchip
AFAIK is the
Netpliance i-Opener.
Via purchased IDT's Centuar division and is rumored to have engineers working on the next-generation Winchip cores.
