One of the biggest space-wasters in our modern world. Pull out a map of your town (or any town/city), and you'll likely find that a good portion of it is covered in useless cemeteries (probably a lot more than you ever suspected). While they're usually erected on the edge of settlements, as they grow cities tend to expand around cemeteries (since nobody wants to or can build over them) - which not only wastes space in general, but also contributes to urban sprawl and unneeded development of valuable farmland.
What's the point? Who ever goes to cemeteries anyways? Maybe (if your lucky) people will visit your plot ten - maybe twenty years after your gone... but after that you'll probably never receive a visitor beside the odd drunk teenagers to knock over your tombstone.
Some people would argue that cemeteries could be used as recreational areas - like parks - but who seriously wants to have a picnic or play ball in a cemetery? If we're going to have huge tracts of undeveloped land in our cities I'd prefer they be filled with trees and animals, not tombstones and dead people.
So please: do us all a favour and get cremated (or, better yet, donate your body to science) - and forget the cookie-cutter tombstone...
