Previously, I believed that knowing how to
repair and
maintain computers was a
boon rather than a
bane.
How wrong I was. Everyone and their
Josephus asks me questions about
inept crap that really should not be a
problem anyway. I mean, it's not their fault, they just have a question, but all of those questions started to accumulate on a
little pile of hate in the back of my
brain. Now, I've resorted to answering every computer question that I am asked as
quickly and as
sardonically as possible. Examples:
Someone: Yea, so, when I got my
computer from
Gateway they didn't have it
hooked up right. The
power thing was, like,
connected on the
outside but not on the
inside.
Me: Yea, sure, whatever. You're probably just
stupid.
Someone Else: So my computer started doing
all thse
weird things last
night. It's totally
possessed by
the Devil.
Me: Nothing's infected by, uh,
whatever.
Shut up.
The second
dialogue is pretty telling since I didn't even bother to
listen to the second half of her statement closely enough to be able to
reproduce it. So, anyway, thanks to this
burn out I'll probably never be able to work a
repair job at, say,
CompUSA. On
second thought, maybe it's for the
best.
