A form of the
Japanese copula verb (
desu) that indicates
probability. There are a large number of
idiomatic uses. It replaces
desu in a phrase. Compare:
Asoko no hito wa sensei desu.
That person over there is the teacher.
Asoko no hito wa sensei deshoo.
That person over there is probably the teacher.
Don't confuse deshoo with desu yo, which can sometimes sound like deshoo if pronounced quickly or mumbled, but has an entirely different meaning.
Written (deshou), all hiragana.
