The
art of
idleness, an
empty,
nihilistic state of
being in which any events or actions fail to have impact or
meaning. This phrase was used repeatedly by
Samuel Beckett to describe the
limbo his characters often found themselves in his plays and was often exclaimed in
frustration or
malaise “Nothing Doing!”
If you find yourself saying “Nothing Doing.” too often it’s best to seek some
active form of
work such as helping the poor that will distract you from the utter
pointlessness of
living. Or just go on and
waste away. “Nothing Doing.” can be a
dead end or a
doorway, it depends on how you look at it.
