Overview
Known alternatively as the External or Short Saphenous, the Small
Saphenous is a superficial vein that runs from the foot to the
knee.
Course
The Small Saphenous Vein runs from the lateral surface of the
foot, where the Digital Vein of the fifth digit (the little toe)
meets the Dorsal Venous Arch. It anastomoses with the
Great Saphenous, and passes through and drains
the Gastrocnemius (a muscle of the calf) before flowing into the
Popliteal Vein.
