Synaptic is a graphical
frontend to the
Debian/
Conectiva APT system of packaging.
The program presents a list of
categories for programs, and within those categories the APT
package names. Selecting one provides three options:
- Keep - The package stays on the servers and is not installed. Think supermarket..."keep" it on the shelves.
- Upgrade/Install - The package is downloaded and installed using whatever packaging system APT is configured to use.
- Remove - The package is removed.
It's well worth the
download since it allows you to a) see dependencies BEFORE you perform the APT
command and b) access all of APTs
mightiness through a colourful graphical interface. It's saved my
ass once or twice, and it may well save yours. Go on,
apt-get install synaptic NOW!
