White House, as deputy director of White House communications. Clawson would later be associated with the 1972 "
Canuck Letter" sent to the Manchester Union-Leader in New Hampshire. This letter would bring down Maine's Democratic Senator Ed Muskie. Clawson left the
White House three months after Nixon's resignation.
