Ray's Pizza is a
legendary New York
pizza parlor. Got a
rave review in some fashionable
magazine in the '50s, and immediately became a huge
hit. Almost immediately, every second or third hole-in-the-wall pizza
joint that opened up became known as Ray's. I'd love to catalog 'em all someday, if I could get the city to
subsidize me.
Most have variations on the name: "Famous Ray's," "Original Ray's," "Ray's Original Famous...." It goes on and on. About every tenth one has some newspaper clipping on the wall which states it is the original famous Ray's Pizza. I've been here ten years and have had at least a half-dozen singled out to me by hard-boiled natives as the original.
