Born 1895 in Portsmouth, NH, Boylston died at age 89 in
1984.
Boylston's name is
familiar to a generation of women who grew up in the
1940s and beyond who read her
much beloved books about
Sue Barton, a young nurse. Later she wrote a series of books about
Carol Page, a fictional aspiring actress modeled after Boylston's friend and acclaimed
actress Eva Le Galliene.
Boylston also wrote an autobiography about her own years as a nurse in World War I, a merry book about travels across Europe and a biography of Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross.
