Mr. Peterson is Jim's confusingly gendered
cat from the moderately popular comic strip,
Jim's Journal. She (yes,
she) appears in the
strip as a barely recognizable
squiggle of a cat form, while still remaining
cute and
cuddly.
Scott Dikkers, the creator of Jim's Journal, says that Mr. Peterson is a combination of his real-life cats Yule and Felix. The cat was first introduced into the strip by Jim's friend and roomate Steve, who brought her to their apartment from his parent's farm. They discovered that "Mr." Peterson was a female after bringing her to the vet, but the name remained. Later on in the strip, Jim gets his own place, but Mr. Peterson stays with him, as though he was the exclusive owner all along. It always bothered me how the strip never explained how Steve lost ownership of Mr. Peterson.
