Courage Under Fire: (1996)
A US Army officer (
Denzel Washington) returns home from the Persian Gulf with trauma and feelings of guilt after being involved in a friendly fire incident. He is given what should have been an open-and-shut case: investigate a female chopper pilot (
Meg Ryan) for the Medal of Honor.
Washington and Matt Damon (Specialist Ilario) give fairly strong performances, although the writing (Patrick Sheane Duncan) is not especially compelling. Meg Ryan is trying here to break out of her "America's Sweetheart" image, also with mixed success.
This movie is one of many films to follow the Rashomon theme of multiple stories of the same event, as told from multiple points of view.
Directed by Edward Zwick

Lou Diamond Philips
