The first
jet fighter to be designed and built in
Canada
(by A.V. Roe Ltd.) The only
Canadian fighter to go into
mass-production. 692 were built 53 of which were sold to
Belgium.
CF-100 was a large, twin engine long range all-weather interceptor aircraft. The wings were straight and low set. The CF-100 was the first straight wing aircraft to exceed Mach 1. It became operational in 1953 and served 10 years in NORAD and NATO squadrons.
