Even though he is co-founder,
Joey Santiago is (unfortunately) one of the two lesser known
Pixies. As the
lead guitarist, Santiago's
talents contributed more than most people realize to the music of
The Pixies -- it really was as much his
sound as it was
Black Francis's. Santiago was also one of the softer-spoken
members of the band, and as such, there are few
interviews, and thus nice quotes to be had.
After the Pixies split, Santiago laid low, helping Black Francis/Frank Black/Charles Kitteridge, IV with his solo work on occasions, and playing with his wife in The Martinis. He also produced several albums, and helped mix for the Foo Fighters and Belly.
It may also be interesting to note that he is the "Joe" mentioned in the two songs "Monkey Goes to Heaven" and "Trompe le Monde".
