A common term used by department and discount
merchants to denote various types of holiday materials (not only Christmas).
The popularity of cheap, theme decoration merchandise has spawned a new
industry based almost entirely of these items. Amazingly, there are even entire
shops dedicated to singular holidays (most commonly being Christmas) that not
only survive the rent and traffic of a standard mall, but also have managed
to prosper and grow.
From my own experience, working at a Wal-Mart distribution center, I can
say that most Trim-A-Tree merchandise is cheap junk manufactured in China
and shipped en masse to the distribution centers in order to cannonball it into
the stores. In short, it is practically pure profit.
