Dandy is also an english slang term for " gay".
In fact the modern notion of what behaviour and clothing is deemed to be "camp" spurts forth from men who were called dandies in their era - for example, the notorious Oscar Wilde, who's effeminate clothing and romantically long hair as well as artistic sensitivity and interest in fashion was to be the foundation of later "gay" stereotype attitudes.

The term dandy in those days however was coined in reference to what was then considered their breakthrough, fashionable style - only later was it to aquire any homosexual connotations.
