Sioux philosopher. Author of several books, including
Custer Died For Your Sins: An Indian Manifesto, an important document of
Indian politics and culure in the late 1960's, and
Red Earth, White Lies, a deconstruction of the
European myth of science. It poses the question -- what if everything you have been taught in school is wrong? He points to
oral tradition indicative of the survival of large mammals in North America into historic times, and calls scientific dating methods into question. Whether he is right or not, the book will call the foundations of your beliefs into question.
Part of his
thesis is that modern science is starting to accept non-western stories as possible truth -- but
indigenes'
theories tend to be dismissed until brought up by
Europeans.
